Population Health Scholars complete their medical training and earn a graduate certificate in population health sciences. These scholars learn foundational population health-related knowledge and develop skills that will contribute to their future practice. Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE)

The Rural & Underserved Utah Training Experience (RUUTE) & Regional Affairs program has worked to develop a 10-week research experience for undergraduate students. The emphasis of this program is to provide research opportunities for students from rural and underserved areas throughout Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana and provide opportunities for students to work on projects emphasizing rural and underserved health.

RUUTE Undergraduate Ambassador Program

The RUUTE Undergraduate Ambassadors program is designed to increase community engagement for those interested in pursuing graduate level school in the health sciences. Ambassadors will attend weekly professional development courses with the RUUTE staff and faculty as well as develop lesson plans to be taught to local middle schoolers in your community. Ambassadors will present these lesson plans to inspire young students to engage in the health sciences, while also gaining volunteer hours.   All undergraduate students attending a college/university in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming or Montana who are interested in pursuing a career in the health sciences are encouraged to apply to the program.

The Health Workforce Initiative provides free health career training in positions like surgery technologists, pharmacy technicians, radiology technicians, medical assistants, and certified nursing assistants. This initiative addresses barriers such as cost of training, next step planning, and job placement.

5 for the Fight Cancer Research Internship

The 5 For The Fight (5FTF) Cancer Research Internship Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute is an intensive, 10-week internship for rising juniors and seniors from select Historically black colleges and universities (HBCU). It is designed to provide a research experience and mentorship for students interested in careers in cancers research and attending medical school or related PhD programs. Under the guidance of a faculty mentor, interns will complete an independent research project and present their work at the Summer Research Symposium organized by the Office of Undergraduate Research. Research Opportunities for Pre-Med and Med Students

Dr. Guillaume Hoareau, PhD., D.V.M

University of Utah School of Medicine

Department: Emergency Medicine – Assistant Professor

Dr. Hoareau is a veterinarian with board certification in Emergency and Critical Care and a Ph.D. in Integrative Pathobiology. His research focuses on acute care translational research with an interest in military resuscitation. Specifically, he studies novel therapeutic approaches to mitigate ischemia-reperfusion injury in hemorrhagic shock.
